The company’s software bill, replaced with servers I run
The company’s per-seat software, replaced with open-source tools on servers I run: project management, wiki, password vault, support, finance and payroll.
The problem
Per-seat subscriptions grow with every hire. For a small company, the tools themselves were turning into a line item.
What I built
- Run 20+ production services across three Linux servers on Dokploy and Traefik, rather than a managed cloud platform.
- Single sign-on across the internal tools with Logto.
- DNS, CDN and email authentication on Cloudflare, with offsite backups to Backblaze B2.
- Wrote it up as an open-source starter covering what vendor docs leave out: monorepo Dockerfiles, Compose, DNS and email records, and restores.
What changed
No more per-seat licence cost across the business, and other small teams can copy the setup from the starter.
